I got a 400 out of a car and I started wondering if the oilpan Will fit in a Super cab truck. and I was wondering if 4x4 engine towers were different than a 4x2.
Dont know if this will help or not but i put a engine out of a 84 LTD into my 79 f150 2wd and didnt have to change the oil pan and the motor mounts were the same also. Hope this helps.
J,
Ford has a power plant division. They have traditionally only had one oil pan for one motor. Ford only had front sump for years and years, then cam the mustang with the sump hump and now they make them with rear sumps. For our Era we're safe with our front sump. As far as the perches go you need to find out which family your existing motor is from, 335, 385, FE, etc. If the family is the same your good to go.

The FE had different pans for 2wd vs. 4wd. 4x4 had a rear sump. Don't know about any other engines.
The 4x2 vs 4x4 mounts are probably different because of the crossmember. On 2wd's, the engine perches sit on the crossmember because its under the engine. On 4x4's the perches have to go all the way out to the frame siderails with no help from a crossmember.
My 78 F250 2WD 400 Front sump had a rear drain plug that was hell at oil change time. The oil spilled off the cross member in a sheet 12 inches wide. I had the pan off once and brazed a drain plug into a hammered out dip in the front of the pan. It is much easier to change oil now. I don't have any idea which will be better when I get that GMC front end installed.
