Got a problem with my "82" 351. I normally only use the truck for hunting or lousy weather. The past few trips to the lake (about 50 miles) in the AM it runs fine temp stays mid range. On the way home about 30 minutes into the drive the temp starts creeping up to the high end. I can back off to about 55 and it willhold on the high end then when I get into town it will cool back down. It does the same in hot or cool weather.
I changed the heater core last week and let it idle for about twenty minutes...noticed steam/white smoke from the right exhaust pipe.
New thermostat.
No water in the oil or oil in the radiator.
I'm thinking head gasket or.........crack
Oh yeah, I broke a valve spring a few years ago on the same side.
