Question fuel sender gage

Got a new unit from a vendor but no instructions. It has a screw fixture on the top which I'd guess is for the power from the harness. It also has a spade connection, on the outside, at the edge of the cover with a 2' black wire, is this for grounding and to what?? I'd like to hook it up today but not blow anything up, like me or my truck. This is probably a goofy question but the old sender only has the power wire screw and a totally separate ground from underneath the gas tank to the frame by the tire well. Any advice will be gratefully apr'ctd!!! Tks~JH

Sounds like your tank is already grounded. If it were plastic, you would have to run that black wire to a good chassis ground for the sending unit to work. Assuming that the sending unit cover/mounting plate is metal, you'll get a ground thru it to the tank. Wouldn't hurt to hook up the other though.

I agree. I would hook it up anyway. Find a convenient hole in the frame somewhere, and get a file, dremel, or sandpaper, and try to clean the area around the hole down to bare metal. Get a bolt with a ring connector and bolt the wire to the frame.
