You might want to consider changing the blower motor while you are in there. The same amount of parts have to be removed to change the heater core or the blower motor.
In the 73-9 A/C equipped truck, the blower motors are mounted horizontally and the weight of the blower cgae tends to elongate the motor bearings. This causes the motor to drag internally and one of the advanced symptoms is a blown blower motor relay. If the shaft has any sideways play at all I would replace the motor.
I had to change mine and the job pretty much sucked. I have A/C. I too agree that you should change the blower at the same time. You don't want to have to do this again when your fan goes out. The fan is around 30 bucks. Also I had to take my core to the parts stort to compare with the new one. The one the computer showed would not fit.
