I am interested in buying a late model Expedition but want the quad seat configuration with a 4.6 litre. As this combination is rare, I was wondering can I simply find a 4.6 with the full bench in the middle and just unbold and remove the middle seat section, leaving 2 seating in the mid seat row with a walk-between space?
I considered the same thing but eventually went with the EB & Quads.
It's not reallydesigned to do that (like a GM minivan). The Quad Seats are larger than the 40/20/40 seats.
I suppose you can take the middle seat out. There will just some big holes in the carpet. I don't think you will have a seat belt issue (they'll have to go too).
I removed the middle section seat on my 03 to get that "walk-through" ability. 4 bolts was all it took.
It was cool for a few months but folks who sat back there tired of the lack of armrests. (Which made no sense since with the center part in there still wasn't armrests ) But we also always seemed to miss having that extra seat.
Anyway, a rubber floor mat took care of any exposed bolt holes.
Hi,
I did the same a few years ago on my '03. We like it this way. It makes it much easier to load the kids and their friends into the Expy. I would like to get some better floor mats to cover the middle section though.
Anyone know a good source for Expy floormats?
This is exactly what I was wanting to do... have to small kids in child seats still and hauling an extra adult is a major pain... was even thinking of getting a mini van to accomplish this.... thanks for saving my manhood ;-)
