A buddy of mine just changed his cps and didnt pull the fuse under the hood first. He said that it ran alot better after he changed it but the next mourning still no start when it was cold. Then it started starting just fine the next day and all is well. He also drained his fuel bowl and filled it with fuel conditioner and added 3 quarts of oil. He did all at the same time. We dont know what fixed the problem and he was just curious. Question in, Does the fuse need to be pulled or is that just to protect the circuit incase you short the wire to the cps while you have it off ????????????
Symptoms were running very rough while warming up then running fine afterwards. Also have to plug in to start in the mourning.
I see you're in Colorado, where it likely has gotten pretty cold recently.
I'd guess that he has a glow plug relay that is becomming intermittant. Due to their construction, they can do that, i.e. pass current one time and not the next.
I would honestly bet it was low oil. Many will say it was the CPS, but 3 qts low will cause those symptoms.
As for disconnecting the batteries or pulling the fuse that is to protect the truck from shorts and or power surges while you are fiddling with the electronics.
