Angry Test Drove '02 Excursion

Well i posted just prior to leaving to see if there is anything i should look out for when test driving this '02 Excursion V-10. Well i just got back from my test drive if that's what you want to call it and it didn't turn out to well.

First a guy and i had to go put gas in it and WOW 41.5 gallons takes forever to put in that beast. So far so good. While he's driving i'm playing with all the gadgets that the passenger can mess with. So we get back to the dealership and talked more to the salesperson about keeping it a couple hrs so i can play with all the gadgets and fully check out the ride, plus show the wife the inside of it on her first break. Cause we had plans at lunch to sign the papers.

So i leave the dealership telling him i'll see him at 10:30ish unless i find a problem while driving down the highway. So as i hit the road i'm checking out the OD turning it on and off since i'm in town and not able to do more then 25mph. Get it down the off ramp and away i went. Another big WOW. For as big as they are she handle pretty well. Went to pass a car and she dropped down into passing mode and that's when i noticed the oil pressure gauge just drop but came back up just as fast if not faster. So i really figured there's a wiring glitch but to be safe i'll get it turned around and take it back and make them check it out. Just as i approach the first off ramp it drops only don't come back up and that annoying CHECK GAUGE light comes on and she shuts down completely. Won't start, but man she had a nice sounding radio while i waited for that dealer to come get me LOL.

He got there and we checked the oil hmmmmmm woulda thought they had done a complete service on it right after they traded it in. He call's ready to rip someones head off and they look it up and it was supposed to have been serviced today.......she sure was pretty sitting up on top of that flatbed.

Now i do have some ?'s about my situation cause the dealers supposed to call me and let me know what they find out. Should i just totally drop the vehicle and nvr look back and just be thankfull it happend while i was test driving it? Will gauges going out like that make the vehicle shut down (which stinks while on an interstate)? I didn't hear any rattleing but at the time i was more worried about getting safely onto the shoulder of an interstate with out causing a pile up or worse. And if they do "fix it" any suggestions as to what i should expect from the dealership as far as some kinda warranty?

O btw cause i'm sure there's something you'll prolly ask that i haven't cover'd so.

Sounds like a problem with the GEM. Or maybe the PCM itself.

Did it crank over?

Did it have oil?

No crank? Erratic guage action? Sounds like a crapped out battery now.

The sales guy hopped in and tried to crank on it and you could hear the starter trying but nothing else was moving and i still had the radio. When we checked the oil all there was, was some coating on the dip stick. Now that i get to thinking about it, it was odly cool to the touch for a vehicle that just got parked and had been running speeds of 75mph i'd think whatever oil was on the stick shoulda been somewhat hot.

Well i chatted to the dealer on Monday and he said they are in the process of replacing the V-10. Asked him what exactly was up and he didn't know.

Might have drained the oil to service it and forgot to fill it up. If that's the case it makes a strong case for a dry engine running as long as it did...

I would need to do some deep checking into the engine swap before I even considered the deal. But a new engine (not rebuilt) would be good if the price was right.

Yea, if they indeed put a new engine in, and as long as it was done by a qualified tech (have to assume this) then I would go for it.
