ses light on/no code

The service engine soon light came on and the truck ran rough/the light would go off and the truck would run fine. The light came on permanently after a couple of days
The truck runs rough at idle and low RPM. It seems to lack power at higher RPM. No smoke/oil pressure fine(stock guage). Has 103k and ran fine just the other day. Its got to be something simple.

Welcome to the forum bigcity.
You don't mention how you know that there are no codes. If the light is on permanently there will be codes.

The check engine light does not come on till you fire the engine. I had two local places try to pull the code and both read no code present. They hooked up before the engine was fired and after.

What are they using to read the codes?

Hand held code readers. A matco one, and the other from autozone

I'm surprised the Matco one didn't pull anything. They are usually on top of things, unless it's a really old one.
Maybe it's an enhanced code that a generic code reader will not pick up. For that you must go to Ford, or someone who has an enhanced reader.

It was some type of harness that needed to be replaced

AH. Thanks for letting us know.
Most likely it was the wiring under the valve covers. They fail a lot.
