I have a 3 on the tree and the clutch would not disengage to shift it into gear. I finally got it to disengage and it seem to shift ok after that. Any thoughts or suggestions on what it might be?
The adjustment is probably right at the point of being inoperable. Sometimes you will get lucky and hit that sweet spot and it goes in gear, other times not. In this condition you can usually shift up through the gears fairly normally. Long story short a few turns of the adjuster should straighten it out. Look at the rod that makes direct contact with the lever coming out of the transmission bellhousing. That is what you do your adjustment with.
Ideally you will have an inch or two of pedal release from the floor before things grab hold. Also you MUST have free travel (slack) when the pedal is fully released. This is so there is not constant tention on the release bearing which will cause premature failure.
