Thermal limiter

1982 F-150 Truck I am not getting as much as I use to How can I test this or does this have nothing to do with my problem

I hope someone else knows what you are talking about, because I haven't a clue? Whats a thermal limiter, and where is it located on the truck?

It sits inbetween the fan and heater coil against the fire wall on passanger side of truck It has 2 coil/spring looking things

I think you may be talking about the motor resistor assembly. This is what gives you the different speeds on the fan blower. Here's a picture.

Yes that is it!I was using the name thermal limiter because thats what they call it in the haynes manual.Now is there any typr of test for it?

Well, if your fan blower works ok in all speeds, then it's working. It's just a resistor, so if you get continuity through the springs, it's ok.

What's the problem with the truck?

I checked with a meter and its OK.Could it be in the switch itself?

There have been some issues with the switch on these. I had one that actually burned up 3 switches before one held. Pull the switch and look at the connections see if there is any burnt spots.

cleaned contacts on thermal limiter,cleaned all contacts electrical contact cleaner,bad ground,lubed fan motor add antifrezze for heat Installed over flowcontainer. Things I should have done before asking for help

You are set to go. One thing, did you clean the fan itself, and check to see if there is a load of crud piled up downstream of the blower fan? You'd be amazed how fine the fan can chop leaves. Its enough to clog the evaporator, if you have A/C.

If you have to clean the crud out, get a vacuum cleaner and use the crevice tool.
