Yep..the dealership is going to have to look at my 03 again tommorrow. They worked on the front hubs as I have a vacume leak somewhere and the "auto" portion of the hubs will not stay locked in. They claim they found a leak in the right hub and put new seals in and checked it out and said it was fixed. After driving it today and doing some trial and error things, I find that the hubs are in the auto-locked position for about 10 minutes after I flip the switch on the dash and then they unlock so I guess they'll have to look deeper into this problem. I also mentioned that I hear the vacume pump run if the truck has sat overnight so maybe that will be a clue for them to look elsewhere.
I've put near $300 towards this repair already and I'm not giving up untill it's fixed right!
Most on here suggest to put a set of manual hubs in, plug the vacuum line and be done with it. From my experience and from reading on here, the oem auto/lock hubs are junk. I will soon be buying a set of manual hubs. For now I just turn the hub to "lock".
as far as i know... NONE of the auto manufactures has EVER made a full sized auto locking hub sytem that was worth a damn... put on the WARN manual hubs and drive trouble free for the rest of your truck's life..!
Trakman, I have the same problem. Replaced the left hub twice and it still kicks out when using ESOF. I always manualy lock them but tried ESOF a couple of times, don't trust it. Out of warrenty now, next mess up and I'll put manual Warn's on.
If they are staying locked, are you going backwards and forwards a couple of times to unload the hubs? I do this with manual hubs cause there's only a spring to push the gear back. It's been a while since I've worked on mine and I think the spring disengages the hub.
OK...just returned from the dealership where they told me that some selenoid valve that has something to do with the vacume to the hubs is bad and will be replaced Monday. They assured me that this should fix it so we will see. I'm to buy the part ($43) and they will eat the labor ($90) HA HA! The mechanic told me to bring it by Monday and wait on it...takes 10 minutes to put on.....figures at that rate, they get $630 and hour! Now go figure that! Anyway hope this takes care of it. Will keep you guys posted.
Been following the many tracks in regards to the ESOF autolocking hubs and from what I gather if the Factory ones go south replace them with the WARN Premiums, Plug the vacuum line and plan on getting out to lock in the hubs, throw the dash switch when 4 X4 is needed and roll on.
Ditto, Ditto, Ditto. I have yet to hear a good thing about auto hubs. I have been 4 wheelin' for about 30 years. No manufacture has ever got it right. WARN HUBS
real men get out and lock the hubs... smart men lock the hubs the night BEFORE a snowstorm... the only time that auto hubs ever saved me was once when i buried the front right side of my old bronco in a mud hole that i didn't see, (it had a bunch of leaves on it and it looked just like the rest of the road). the hole was about 2 feet deep and i had to put it in 4x4 low to get it out and it was nice to just push that button and not have to reach down through that muck...! but all in all, i prefer the manual hubs... no probs so far... i can't say that about the auto hubs my bronco had...
