Rear end code and swap
I have a rear end axle code of 38 on my 78 F250. Would this tell me my ratio? I am getting terrible milage with the 351M motor and a rear end swap seems the least expensive fix. The engine runs fine but in the upper RPM range fuel just flushes through the two barrel. Please send me and information on swapping to a higher gear ratio.

Yes,you would achieve better mileage with a ratio closer to 3.00 or 2.75:1 but,I'm sure that 3.54's were about the lowest in the dana 60 rear.
There are so many variables in fuel economy through.
