Re doing stock brakes

Any suggestiong on redoing the stock brakes? Will have new rubber and steel lines, new shoes, new hardware, new or rebuilt master, new wheel cyl. anything i am forgeting? but is there anything i can add that has been created in the last 50 years( besides disk and power, and dual master cyl) that will help in brakeing? thanks

I'd say new drums if you're not including them in the hardware. Unless your old ones are mic'ed and you know for sure you have enough meat left on them to turn them, but if they're original 50 year old drums I'd say get new ones if budget permits. They're the most expensive part it seems if you replace all four. On my 51 I got the front ones from Joblot for about $60 each, and the rears through autozone for about $30 each, but the rear axle is off of a 68 Ford so they're more available. I know a lot of people prefer going to power disks, but I've driven with all drums on mine for years and they stop the ol truck plenty fast.

While you have it torn down that far check the bearings and races and by all means clean and repack the bearings if your keeping the old ones.

I would by a new M/C if at all possible, and if you could upgrade to a dual M/C even better for safety sake. Good Luck.
