Well I recently purchased my new to me 97 F250 460 4x4 and I have a few questions about the E4OD in it. I have previously driven a 93 f250 with an E4OD that I had to have rebuilt so I know a little about them and how they shift.
What I am having is a hesitaion and a slightly hard shift when shifting out of park into reverse or drive. It also has a little bit of a harder shift than my 93, it isn't really harsh but definaltey can be felt. I plan on changing the tranny fluid to Maxlife since it is begining to become a little discolored.
Does this seem normal to anyone or am I just being paranoid with my new baby? Thanks in advance for any help.
i wouldnt get to worried just yet.drop the pan and see if the pan is coated with a light coat of black goo,aka clutch material.if not service like normal, drain converter.you can add a bottle of Lucas trans additive.disconnect the battery to kill learned stratagy and fill up.
Take it to a tranny shop and have them read the codes. That will tell you exactly what's wrong and you will save yourself money down the road. That's what i did.
