gear ratios

I have a 77 F250, C6, 460, Dana 61 with 3.31 gears. I occasionally pull up t0 7,000 lbs with it. I know that the gearing isn't the best for towing. Am I going to hurt the rear end by pulling that much with it or hurt any other components?

Thanks for the opinions.

No Sir, I pull that weight with a 3.00. Just make sure the fluid level in it is ok.

Doesn't hurt the rearend. The biggest component that takes abuse from high gearing is the transmission. It puts a killing on autos and it puts a hurt on clutches too. Not sure what the ratio is in your C6, but that has a lot to do with it as well. Sometimes the gearing in the trans can cope with it.

I have a shift kit and a 2000 rpm stall on the transmission, so it is built to take some abuse. So form what you guys tell me, I should be ok.

Your trans has a 1.1 high gear, so you would have a 3.31 final ratio which ain't bad for towing that weight. The only thing I would recommend is an extra tranny cooler than the factory one.
