'00 250 vibration

I've searched the threads and still haven't been able to figure this one out. So, here's what I'm up against.

2000 F250 4X4 V10 auto,
I get a mild vibration driving down smooth roads at certain speeds. Can be felt at about 40 then quits around 45. Can be felt again around 60-65 (a little worse than the slower speeds) and quits again about 70. Feels a little like a front tire out of balance. Can't be felt when braking, just driving straight down the highway.

So far, my attempt at diagnosis has been:
1) Rotated tires, no difference
2) Had tires balanced, no difference
3) Checked for excess wheel play thinking bearings, no play, turns smooth
4) No abnormal amount of brake drag noticeable
5) Checked front/rear gear oils, trans fluid, etc, all full and changed not too long ago.

Not quite sure where to go from here. Everything else has been great with this truck and the vibration isn't really that bad. In fact, probably noone else would notice it But, if it's a warning sign of a problem I'd rather fix it before it becomes a major issue.

How about the ball joints?
Are you sure one or both hubs are not locked in, i.e., can you freely spin both axles by hand?
How much play do you have in the carrier (swing) bearing?
Have you closely checked each ujoint?

Hubs are not locked, axle spins free by hand.

I'll check those other suggestions tonight.

The vibration is it in the steering wheel or seat /floor?

Your rear drive shaft has a carrier bearing about halfway down the shaft towards the dif. There are a number of forum entries about a shim under the base of that housing that seems to correct vibration as your describing. I'd check some of the posts on it. I havn't done it yet on mine, but I've been thinking about it. I'd rule out ball joints too, but they don't usually make that kind of vibration within the band under power. It would be smart though to check your front and rear suspension thoroughly. Look at ball joints, tie rods and drag link. Should be tight with grease present in the boots and check for rear spring cracks or breakage. Also look for even arching in the rear springs. You may have had some stretching under ultra-heavy loads that could contribute to vibration or the frame not riding squarely.

Thanks for all the input guys, I think I found it. I have a ujoint that is, shall we say, questionable. Changing it this weekend, hopefully that will be that.

Surprised though, I would think that a ujoint would be more a constant than coming and going with various speeds. But, I was talking to a friend who mentioned his dakota acted the same way with a ujoint going bad.

Anyway, thanks again guys! All should be well assuming this is actually the problem.
