Have any of you guys used one of the HEI distributor in your 460's that you can buy on ebay? There are several listed at $120 or less. Some are about the same price of a rebuilt Duraspark. The sales propaganda makes them sound like a good deal, but a used car sales man can make a HUGO sound like a good car.
Just wondering what kind of luck you may have had with them.
I plan to use one on my 460/66/SWB/C6 project! Hard to beat the price. I am a little concerned about the size of that thing, sticking up in front of my Ford motor and all but what the heck, I use a Delco alternator and it works. If I painted it red the cheeve Boys would think its a 454! The other area of concern is the distributor and camshaft drive gear mesh and the oil pump drive. So I hope someone with actual experience will chime in soon. The e-bay seller has a good reputation and I doubt he would sell crap that dosen't work? IMHO!
The chevy guys will never think your 460 is a 454 because of the exhaust ports
A friend of mine runs one of the ebay HEI dizzy's on his truck and he was very pleased with it. The gear meshed fine, though he didn't like the gear itself and put on a stock bronze ford gear, instead. He feels he has more power, though I couldn't tell the difference, but I don't drive his truck often enough to be truly observant.
I run HEI on my truck now, except mine was just a wiring hack... I still have the factory ford EFI dizzy on myy truck. My EEC still controls the timing, I just have the slightly hotter spark from the HEI coil. Though, in hindsight, for what I have now, it would have been a heck of a lot easier to remove the TFI coil off it's mounting plate, and slap on an Accel or MSD TFI ignition coil and call it a day.

I used the stock Duraspark system out of a '77 F-250 on my '66 F-100 when I upgraded to a 460. It only required 3 wires to be spliced into the original harness. I have excellent spark, and it looks clean, neat and close to original.
Price was right too, because I used it out of the '77 truck, wiring harness and all.
