I have been seeing some of your galleries with the 46637 Wix filter and have a question. Are you putting the filter over the outside of the intake hose. If so, is the hose stiff enough not to collapse or are you putting a metal brace inside.
Also, when I went to fleetfiter I found a Cabin air filter, where does this flat filter go. I have the Haynes and Chiltons book but I didnt see any reference to this type of filter.
The 46637 fits over the 4"piece of exhaust pipe that people commonly use. Some of the 46637 filters have a very stiff end, while others arent stiff at all. I just used a constant torque intercooler boot clamp from a Mack dealer to clamp the filter to the pipe. The typical "tymar" setup of this air filter is a 4" piece of exhaust pipe, in a 45 degree bend going from the factory air intake tube bracket, to the air filter. It is typically joined to the air intake tube bracket with a 4" intercooler hose.
Not 100% sure on the cabin air filter, but I think that even though it is listed, we dont have a spot for one on our trucks.
Im kind of lost as to what connections you need stiffened up. My setup was very firm, and held together very well. 4" intercooler hose from the factory piece bolted to the motor, hooked to a 4" piece of exhaust pipe, bent at 45 degree angle, into the air filter, which rested on the fenderwell. This should be plenty stiff.
Look at the photos that Strokin_it7.3 has in his gallery and you should understand what I am asking. It looks if he just slipped the air filter over the end of the hose that he disconnected from the air box and I was wondering if the hose itself was stiff enough to tighten down the hose clamp or if there was piece of tubing inside to keep it from collapsing.
Thanks for the info. If you have a pic of yours then please post it so that I will understand your setup also.
I looked at the pictures, and now understand what you mean. There is a 50/50 split in if the neck of the air filter will be stiff enough. Napa uses a couple different suppliers for this filter, and some have a VERY stiff neck, while others are pretty soft. Either way, it should be stiff enough to clamp the factory hose to.
