bed sheetmetal question

Hi Im new to the forum and i thank you for your time. I have a 1976 F100 shortbed. I jack knifed a trailer and dented the bedside behind the wheel well. I want to cut and replace the metal as this truck has no rust or putty. The problem is I cant find any replacement metal. I have found replacement parts for longbeds though. Does anyone know where I can get the metal for behind the wheelwell and is it the same as a longbeds. Appreciate it thanks for your time.

I think they are the same (long bed and short bed) for the portion you are talking about (behind the wheel well). I have found the "quarter panel repair section, rear" in the National Part's Depot catalog on page 234. Part # F-27840-4R2 (Right side) F-27841-4R2 (left side) and cost $119.95 each. In the book it does not mention if these part's are for long bed or short bed so, I am assuming that they will fit either. You may want to call and ask to be sure before ordering. My friend has bought long bed sides for his short bed and cut them down to fit. He only had to cut off the front's of them so I believe they are the same from wheel well back. -Ed

Right on..... LMCtruck.com I use them 99.9% of the time for factory stamped body parts (meaning that it is the same as what the factory did). Same gauge, etc.

LMC buys most of their parts from TYC ( Tong Yang Company ) they are genrally stamped overseas and shipped to the US via boat. Ive had problems with the fit and stamp quality of these parts in the past, and currently. However since your going to patch the bed, it wont matter as much as say a fender would

For NOS quality parts, Dennis Carpenter is gonna be your best source, you cant beat parts that are stamped on Fords original Tooling.

I would try Dennis Carpenter. But then again it might be cheaper to buy a new truck with their prices!

From a post above...

One of the problems with parts not made on OEM tooling is that they are generally made of soft steel for easier stamping. Unfortunately after dropping a couple of grand in your new paint job the panels will dent when pressed with a finger... -Not good.
