I remember reading Smokey's how to book when i was younger and the thought poped in my head has anuone every heard of side gaping your plugs to open them up to the cc during spark. just wondering what ya all thought.
by the way I love the site. its set up really well, and all the general help is excellent. this is the stuff you could never get from a Haynes manuall.
I dont even think they tell Jokes!
We side gapped the plugs on my friends race car all the time, and also in his dad's truck (351W). The only drawback to sidegapping the plugs is shorter plug life. It shouldn't really be an issue with plain ol copper plugs. It made a little improvement in the truck.
yeah, now i remember, Sidegapping is for racing apps, not good for stop & go driving as it tends to foul out the plugs. Indexing works best here.
Thanks EPNCSU

It doesn't hurt anything, and doesn't increase the likelihood of fouling the plugs. It just decreases the life of the plug. It does help some with performance.
You use small washers on the plug to align it in the bore. What you are trying to do is place the plug in the hole with the electrode out of the piston. Electrode should be at the far back side of the head when finished.
Use a marker on the plug beforehand so you can see that it is.
Does the above link work for other folks?
It barfs all over its self when I click on it.
I tried to include a link last night in a posting I did and it became fouled up as well.
Is it just the security functions we have in our network here or is it a function of this host?
Thanks.

The link does work on this forum, but what you're seeing is an FTE page that comes up, read it and it'll tell you what it is. In the middle of that page is a line that says "Take me to the site I clicked on. Click Here"....clicking that link bypasses that "pop-up" style message and delivers you to your destination.
