I've got what I think is a craftsman 24" or so breakerbar, for 1/2 drive sockets, love it, its like having a hammer, but I dont use it for that. feels like one though, cant bend, or break it. love the craftsman lineup, they break, I can replace em no questions asked, easily.

24? Sears does not make it, only 15 in long, that cost 24, i went to sears and saw a 18in breaker bar for 27, i bought the 15in long, maybe in the future i will by the other one.
is your craftsman bend at 45? i mean does it have groves to accept it at 90 degrees

ive got that one, ive put a little bow in it once or twice with the help of a peice of pipe while breaking something free, never broke yet
Get one at least 24" long so you can put 250 foot pounds onto the socket. Then if it requires more you can use a cheater pipe. I have had good lucky with the Husky brand from Home Depot. I bent the pin in my Craftsman.
You could buy the 3/4 socket set from www.NorthernTools.com for $39? I have not broken my Harbor Freight 3/4 ratchet or breaker bar yet that was included in the set. I think it is exactly the same as the NT set.

i would rather save money and some good brand, i might use it later when i come tech in a few years.
No matter what brand or how much you spend on it, with enough leverage you CAN break ANY breaker bar. I broke a tooth after getting hit in the mouth after my 24' snap on came unglued! Greg
I have a Snap On 24" breaker bar and if I can not break it with that then I go and get the 1" drive Snap On ratchet because I have seen to many people get hurt including myself screwing around with tools that are not designed for the torque. I work on construction equipment we deal with things that are torqued to 12,000 ftlbs and higher. It is cheaper to buy good quality tools and especially with breaker bars bigger is better and I found this out the hard get a good quality adaptors (Snap On only).
but others working with industrial machines (quarries that i know personally since i'm a stonemason) have used "non quality" craftsman for over 50 years. i dont get why people live for snap on like they are the only tools that work....or last.

Hey Panzer,
Can you send a picture of the Snap On breaking loose the fasteners torqued to 12,000 ft./lbs.? Man, that must be one LONG breaker bar!
I like the Kobalt tools at Home Depot. Made by Snap-on for 1/2 the price.
IMHO There's little reason to buy a short breaker bar. If you use it without a pipe on it you can't generate much more torque than you can with a standard ratchet, and if you need to put a pipe on it regularly then you really needed the longer one to begin with. Saving 3.00 isn't enough to compensate for the agravation, If I need a breaker bar, I want all the leverage I can get.
