I have a leaking power steering fluid pump cap. Do i refill with type F transmission fluid, like I used to with my '74, or should I use power steering fluid?
I used ATF for years until someone told me that it caused premature pump leaking. I have used power stearing fluid (the clear stuff) since then and have never had a pump go bad. When I was using ATF I had many pumps go bad.
I use to run type F in my Galaxie power steering. It use to leak too. I switch to Prestone power steering fluid with "seal swell" and the leaks slowly went away. When the fluid level went low, I just added the clear stuff. I had no problems with mixing the two. What ever brand you may decide to use, read the lable to make sure it will work in your system.
