I recently bought a straight pipe from ford that the 7.3 diesels had and bolted it up to my 6.0 to delete the cat to hear more of the turbo whistle. Since then I've noticed a little more power, but a slight lag when I first hit the accelerator from a dead stop. I've also notice a decrease in fuel mileage. Probably about 15 miles less than before. Has anyone else done this and noticed a change in mileage?
I have noticed the same thing. The first tank was skewed due to a trip to the dealer for glow plug o-rings and RMS. On the couple fo tank fulls after that, I have seen a decrearse in my fuel mileage from about 17.9 mixed mixed driving to 17.3 mpg mixed driving.
Other than the kitty delete, the only thing I can think of going on here in Michigan is that it is getting colder and windier. My truck doesn't run efficiently (numbers wise she only gets 17 mpg at 60 mph until she is warmed up to 188°F then she will get the 22 to 23 mpg at 60 mph). So right now I don't know if it is the weather or the kitty.
Some days are better than others, so I am leaning towards the weather. But either way, I am willing to let that 0.6 (about 15 miles on a 25 gallon fill up)mpg go in exchange for that great turbo sound.
I would think you all have about the same thing going on in NY. When did you do the delete?

I think it was a little over a month ago. The whistle isn't as loud as I'd like it to be. A friend of mine who owns a Diesel shop said that if I really wanted to hear it I'd have to get rid of the muffler also & have a total straight pipe front to back. I'm a little hesitant to do that though - I mean I dunno if it would make anything worse as far as MPG and power. But I'm dyin' to hear that whine!
You shouldn't be loosing MPG by freeing up the exhaust... That is, if you drive it the same as when you had stock exhaust. The only reason my MPG went down is because, after I had everything done, there isn't one intersection within a ten mile radius of my house that doesn't have a set of 12" black patches on it!
Nice truck BTW. How is the painted bumper holding up? I know mine's all chipped & I can't find a bra for the bumper.
HAHAHA... Funny you should ask! A drunk pulled out in front of me about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I blasted him pretty good. They had to replace the bumper. I get it back on Friday. I am installing the Clear Bra from 3M when I get the truck back (Look at your other thread ).
aww that suckss I'm sure he sobered up pretty good with a superduty up his @$$. I've always wanted to blast someone hard with my truck. No one knows how to drive around here. I gotta get a Westin bull bar first though. Thanks so much for the link!

That is how mine is. Straight 3.5 inch, no muffler, no tuner, with the 7.3L kitty delete pipe. Not loud at all, except for the turbo whistle . As far as exhaust tone, she sounds stock until you get on her and past 2000+ rpm. Then she starts barkin' a bit.
Check out ITPdiesel.com for the 3.5 inch diameter muffler delete pipe.
so wait, are you saying that i can bolt the pipe section from a 7.3 in place on my 6.0 and it fits perfectly, ive never heard this before. details please, details.
I didn' notice any increase in power, but that is probably because I dropped my muffler soon after I got the truck. The kitty delete just made a sound difference for me.
The kitty delete pipe is Ford part number XC3Z5A212EA. The "EA" on the end designates the length. The EA is the shortest. You can get them through powerstrokeshop.com for $67.88. I have a SC SB and I had to cut off about 10 inches to make the pipe fit. But the pipe comes with the 2 bolt flange and hanger welded to it. I had to move an existing hanger to make it work. Total time to intsall, 30 minutes.
so on a 04 crewcab long bed , if i were to get that kitty piple would i need to cut or modify anything?
I am not sure. I talked with the guy at powerstrokeshop.com for quite a while and he even emailed me some diagrams from his parts book. They are great to deal with so give them a call and see what they say.
