how much can i pull

I have a 77 F250 460, C6, 3.31 gears in a Dana 61, 7900 GVW. I was wondering how much can I pull. I had the rear end rebuilt because it was shot in spring, and i put new ujoints in it at the same time. I already have one that is bad. I only pull once in a while and at the most 7,000 lbs. Am I overdoing it? I didn't want 4.10 due to the gas mileage change, but should I put them in anyways? I'd appreciate the advice.

You should WITH a good running truck -change ALl fluids and filters and grease every zerk. Good for an EASY 7k 3.31's arn't the best though. I'd use a "Percision" u-joint that is what I have in my 78 and grease them once and a while and they are GREAT.

I used whatever they had at NAPA. The truck is 2700 miles off a frame off restore where everything was rebuilt, so every fluid has been changed, some two or three times.

Depend on the brand of the Ujoints the only ones I found that lasted was at NAPA called Tough jointHaven,t replaced one in about 5yr.just keep them greased I gross out at when I,m pulling the trailer or our sled to pulls at 24000lb.I got more torque than the460 gasser.I have 3:54 gears mine has the same ujoint you have .

I guess my biggest concern is that is pulling that kind of weight good for the tranny and the rear end. I have no worries about the 460. The tranny has a shift kit and a 2000 RPM stall. I just want to make sure I am not working it to hard.

Mine had the auto. in it when in was new 460 auto, dana 60 3:54 my dad got in new reverse is a little high in the tranys for backing a load .you are not towing that heavy the stall is what I would be worried about creating a lot of heat burning the fluid unless you have a big trany cooler.
