Rear Hatch not locking

2000 X, 4X4, limited
Last night the rear hatch on my X would not lock with either the power lock button or the key. I removed the door trim last night and found that the metal rod that connects between the key lock and the lock assembly was disconnected from the key lock end of the rod. I don't think that I have ever used this key lock and I don't understand why it broke off from the backside of the key lock. The plastic clip on the end of the rod looked like it was corroded and very brittle. Does anyone have a diagram from a repair manual that shows and exploded view of how all this goes together? I can't figure out what I need to buy or replace, and how to reconnect the rod back to the key lock. For now I have removed the rod from the door and I can only lock the door using the power lock button. Any help thta you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Does anyone have a picture of how this rod connects to the key lock inside the rear hatch door?

Thanks,
Robert

I have found a very effective online manual source to be ALLDATADIY.COM pretty good source of reference. I think it cost me $25.00 for a year but you register the VIN # and keeps you up to date on recalls and bullletins etc. Those plastic clips are usually not too bad to change, the hard part is getting to them

Good luck!
