How do you join a copper pipe to cpvc? I have a 1/2" copper pipe (hot water supply) that went into a 1/2" cpvc stop valve which sprung a leak at the connection. Would cpvc cement work on a copper to cpvc joint? Thanks
Don't know if this still holds, but 20 yrs ago when joining PVC to metal (I was installing hot tubs), you wanted to use a female PVC threaded fitting over a male metal threaded fitting.
Reason was if the water gets too hot the metal expands, and the PVC shrinks, and the seal will only get tighter. Do it the opposite way and a female metal fitting might expand while the PVC contracts, and you spring a leak.
as to the last post, thats why you need to use CPVC fittings. they are for hot or cold h2o. PVC won't tolererate hot h2o cpvc is is cream color, pvc is white. you need to use a good primer/cleaner & cpvc or multipurpose cement/ cpvc cement is orange

they make a compression fitting called quest or pex. they sell them at lowes around here and some plumbing supplu places. Huges plumbing supply has some neat new ones called sharkbite. you simply just press them onto the new pipe. either one of those will work fine and save you alot of time and work just as well. we use them alot for water leaks at the apartment complex i work for.
go to local plumbing supply house& ask for a"sharkbite" coupiling 1/2" to1/2" . they work great ,just snap together ,no glue, no sweating , no fuss. barry
