I spent all day yesterday repalcing the anti rattle kits, rollers, window felts, and weatherstrips for my '66 shorite. After a lot of troubleshooting, hammer throwing, and a little cussing I got the Driver's side done and the passenger side went pretty smoothly (since I was an expert after the first door....or so I thought) and it all looks fantastic. My windows don't fall to the bottom of the door anymore when I roll them down too far so that's pretty cool.
My question is this, I just can't seem to get the vent windows installed correctly. I understand how the threaded shaft works for tension and that isn't the problem, my trouble is that when you open the vent windows they are not secure in the mounting (underneath where you must have the L shaped piece facing backwards and slide it into the oval hole at the bottom of the vent window bracket). The vent window opens and closes properly but it flops around a bit when in postion like there is too much slack in the bottom pivot. It looked like it went together properly but it sure is sloppy. The tensioning system is working fine also. Just too much slack at the bottom pivot.
Any idea what I did wrong? I did a search but couldn't quit find this problem.
Thanks guys!

i did exactly this on my '66 alittle over a year ago. i remember there was a lot of washers/spacers that went on one of the window shafts, it took me a couple of tries to get them in the right order. this might have something to do with your problem.
i also had to cut a couple of inches off the bottom of the division bar in order to fit it through the opening in the door.
Well I pulled the vent window assembly out easily. It was working with proper tension when I took it apart. Even had a little trouble getting the vent glass with the bracket pulled apart from the rail frame (which is in excellent shape...a trip to the wire wheel and it shined like new). I carefully laid out the few parts, cleaned them, and reassembled the whole unit the way it came apart. Floppy city.
I figured that I would be a little smarter with the other side and I did not take the tension assembly apart at all and it still had the same problem. I really would hate to rig it to get it to work, especially since there are very few parts. Seems to me if it worked when I took it apart it should work when I put it back together the same way.
Been some time since reconditioned vent windows on 65. If recall, 1 or both of the vent hinges is slotted. Perhaps combination of adjusting slotted hinge and tention on pivot arm may work.
Question on the vent windows. Are they supposed to open past 90 degrees, to act as air scoops when you go down the road? My 76 F100 vent windows do that, but the ones on my newly acquired 61 F100 Uni do not. They even flop around a bit, suggesting that someone has been monkeying in there.
