All,
I have an opportunity to buy a "77-International Scout". I am a 73-79 Ford expert.
Should I be so arrogant as to think I could work my way through an old Scout? Are these vehicles at all alike? Did IH colaborate with Ford MoCo. I believe that IH built a 304. Is this really a 302? Please chime in,
KingFisher
The old Scouts are tough as nails, but like to rust & are very heavy.304 shares nothing with a Ford except maybe ignition box.Parts are getting a little hard to find.Just my 2cents.Brian
I'd have to agree. I'd beware of a Scout. I considerd a Scout II for my first car (Which I still don't have yet) but decided against it because aftermarket parts are rare. You can't find performance parts for the engine let alone standard parts. You can still find lifts and the like for them but otherwise. I'd sugguest a Scout maybe if you got into one of the Scout clubs. I do believe theres a National one. Not sure. But definetly join a club if you buy one cause I'm guessing that'll be one of the only places you'll find parts.
Oh yeah. Another reason I decided against a Scout was because they only come backed with an Auto.
fish , I had a 76 with a 304----it had a t-19 with 1st synchro , and d44's both front and rear-----i didn't thimk much of the body or the engine but the frame and running gear was damn good---alot of cj jeepers would love to have the tranny and axles and xfer case---advanced adapters makes just about any bell housing to adapt any engine to the t-18 or 19----the springs in mine were alittle weak , but that could be easily fixed-----the price would dictate alot towards my final decision!!!!!fd
