I have a 88 f-150 straight 6 300, ran out of gas put gas in went about 1 block then died not to start again. Checked filter it is ok it has 60 psi at the fuel rail. installed new fuel pressure regulator, timing is ok and it has spark. If I spray fuel in the intake it will start right up and idle but as soon as you stop spraying gas it dies again. Any ideas that I may be able to try or do you think it is an injector problem? please help getting very frustrated with this thing.
well not real sure i guess but when i pushed in the check valve gas does shoot out of that on the rail. maybe it's just time to let the ol girl retire?!?!
To me, it sounds like the injectors are not firing. You can test this with a noid light, or by feeling for the injector pulsing with your finger. A noid light would be the best bet. I'd still pull the codes even if the check engine light is not on because codes can still be set. Here are some good instructions on how to pull the codes yourself: http://www.thorssell.net/hbook/eectest.html
After you pull your codes, check your PIP in the distributor. The computer will shut off the injectors if it doesn't see the PIP signal. There's aslo a 22k ohm resister in the wiring harness to protect the computer from transient voltages on the PIP line which like to break.
