Hi Guys, This is my first posting. I think this web site is great. For the past few days when I open my drivers door I hear the ding ding sound that normally sounded when my headlights were left on.(They were not). This morning I started my truck (Ford F-150 extended cab) and the sound did not sound .When I started to leave I noticed my headlights were not on. When I arrived at work I checked the fuse (under the hood) and it was good. My electric door switch and rear light are working, so I don't think it is the relay? What do you think the problem is?
I was thinking it was the light switch itself? If so how do you change it? Is it hard or complicated? Thanks for your help.
Does the "door ajar" light work ok? It doesn't stay on when the doors are closed?
What year is your truck? There a couple different ways that the headlight switch comes out. If you search in here you should find the details. If not just ask and someone will post them.
Hi, One day a week or so ago we closed the doors of my truck and I noticed while we were driving that the door ajar light was still on. It was around this time that I started hearing the ding ding sound when I opened my door while getting into the vehicle. I also heard the sound after shutting the truck off and attempting to exit it.The keys have been removed and the lights were not on. My truckis a 1997 F-150, V-8 4.6 liter, extended cab. Thanks for your help I'll look forward to your reply.
Also, I am getting about 13 MPG. I recently put 18 inch tires on it 285/60r/18,directionals. Any suggestions on increasing gas mileage????
If I had to guess I'd say that the headlight switch itself is probably on it's way out.
It would take some testing with a voltmeter or test light to tell for sure though.
As for better gas mileage I would suggest searching here and you'll find some asnwers. The important things are to make sure the engine is in proper tune, gets up to proper operating temperature, filters are clean etc.
