I'm looking to get a set of component speakers, gotta have some clarity on my highs and mids. The mid-range speakers I don't have a problem with, the tweeters on the other hand are what this is about. I have seen tweeters mounted on the door panel. If I want to mount a tweeter on the door panel, what is need to be done, or if I were to just cut a hole and mount, would that work. Also, i've been told that it is best to run an amp for the components. I know it really depends on which components I get, like output wise, but would it be fine to just hook them up without an amp and then add the amp later? My HU pumps 50x4(22x4 rms). thanks.
You can get the seperate component speakers, and simply mount the tweet to the door (they usually come with all the mounting hardware and directions for flush or exposed mount). All depends on the manufacturer of the speaker though.
For my current ride I went with a higher end one piece (Infinity Reference Series) since I didn't want to mess around with mounting and cutting for seperate tweeters.
As far as to amp or not, you will certainly notice that a set of good speakers will sound better off the HU than stock, but amping them will take it to the next level.
Amping any speaker is going to make it sound awesome compared to a headunit. I had a 26wRMSx4 HU and I powered my speakers off of it and thought it sounded great then I hooked up an amp to run the speakers and I was just amazed.
The more money you spend on the tweeters, the better they will sound. a/d/s used to make some tweeters that retailed $1799 for a pair, these are the best of the best.. but extemely expensive. I would recommend getting JL audio or Eclipse or if you can swing it, Focal component sets and deffinately amp them.
I run the Infinity Kappa componet. I put the tweeter on the pillar at the bottom and the rear tweetere are at the top of the back side plastic piece. Runnng an amp is a nice option. I have a 400 w running those speakers and it sounds great. Good luck.
