SAS question

How many people with the TTB-44 and TTB-50 have done the SAS?

For those of you with the TTB still in place, if you broke something would you consider swapping the Solid 44/60 or fixing the TTB?

just loking for som opinions.

Thanks,

For big lift or big tires, TTB is more trouble than it's worth. Search the offroad forum, this subject is covered very thoroughly there.

Having just replaced ball joints, u-joints, and all bushings on my 86 F250, I really wish I had looked harder to find a donor axle for an SAS. Lot of work and a fair amount of money just to get back to the original from the factory TTB issues (alignment, tire wear, etc.)

No, I wouldnt consider it, I own one of each and both are suited nicely to different things

Exactly....

So to combine the two quotes into one opinionated answer, Its all about what you use the truck for....

TTB is wonderful in daily drivers, or toys that dont see a lot of playing that is hard on axles

TTB Sucks in an offroad application. I wouldnt go any more than 33's and 4 inches of lift with a TTB, and that said we plan on 33's and 2 inches of lift on our 82

until your springs begin to sag and then your ttb will begin chewing through tires left and right. its worth the swap IMO just for simplicity sake! i got my truck to ride better with the solid axle and leafs than i did with the TTB could have ever dreamed of

just keep and eye out for busted up trucks with solid axles and keep a couple hundred bucks handy and when the time comes you'll be ready to make your purchase. not like its a must-do right now but could be a fun project

i am so glad i did mine but i also wheel pretty hard

I've heard that too but I've also heard the TTB argued to be just as good in quality.

Was thinking 33" A/Ts now I'm begining to think about 35" boggers so the F/R D60s are becomeing a possibilty, but I'll worry about upping power before I go tires as I doubt the 300 will be sufficiant for the larger tires.

Just trying to get an idea of how many did the swap when something broke.

the real problem is the leaf spruung ttbs, leaf springs are not designed to constantly move in an arc like the ttb moves in. ford tried to make the a fram shackle to help aleviate some stress, but bushings still get trached quick, and your springs get trashed, they start sagging, and then your out of alighnment and your truck rides and handles like crap

If your doing prerunner/tough truck style wheelin and don't go any bigger than a set of 35'sx12.5's a TTB i think is the way to go. Heck i liked to see a solid axle truck keep up with a TTB (say a 6" lift for the solid axle and ttb, extend radius arms etc) in that types of situations, i've seen many jeeps converted to a dana 44ttb for this particular use, and they performed awesome. But if you're doing more of the rock and mud thing a solid axle is the way go as ttbs can't side hill (but this seems to be the trend with any type of ifs) and its articulation is horrible, and in the mud the ttb is like a dozer blade, whereas a sa the mud can move around the axle much better.

I started with a dana 44 ttb on leafs but found a wcked deal on a 88 1ton with a 60 with 4.10's, i jumped on it for that and the fact i wanted to lift its without spending money, thats its for now, things to do.

Has anyone done a swap on a 97-03 f150? What do these trucks come with stock? I haven't broken anything yet on mine (though i did just get my 33's...) but everything on the drivetrain is covered under the warrantee I have.

Good, so if I do my math, I should be able to fit the 35" swampers without too much trouble.
