I would assume so, I know the M50D is the standard 5 speed transmission, and I am pretty sure the 2.9 would have it, the 4.0 does. So yes, the tranny is a bolt on. Space considerations would be something you will have to check, but I would be more than willing to bet this is a straight in drop in swap.

If the bellhousing bolt patterns of the 2.9 and 4.0L are the same, then it'll drop right in. You might also have to relocate some fuel lines and of course you'll have to come up with a 4.0L computer and probably swap a few wires around in the harness.
