Well just noticed last night while hauling butt up this grade about 100mph, 3rd gear pinned after about 10 sec motor cuts out untill i let off. Im guessing im sucking the float bowls dry. It was my understading that the stock fuel pump can handle 400hp??? I have the fuel pump with the built in filter cartridge. Could possibly the stock fuel line be to small? Or should I call Summit for a serious fuel pump? Also when i start the truck in the morning she will fire right up, then stumble and die, and if you try to give her some throttle to keep it running, it just sucks air and still dies unless you hold it pinned. Then when you hit the key again, motor fires up, runs fine, and there is plenty of response. My motor is a 422" FE, ported heads, Crower 272 cam, performer RPM, 670 Truck Avenger, Tri y headers, 3" single exhaust.

No points in my truck, Duraspark ignition. Ironicly, my fuel pump just gave out a few hours ago. I parked it, and when i came back I smelt gas, went to start it, starter clicked and wouldnt turn the motor over, like it was siezed. After a few trys, she slowly turned over and fired and just barely ran shaking the whole truck. I was just totaly blown away at that time. I shut her down and heard fluid just gushing out from the motor. Did i mention im 20 miles from home at my dads house in the mountains in the dark, and so full and buzzed from dinner that this is the last thing i wanted to deal with, and its pouring rain . I get the big flash light and the whole engine compartment is covered in oil. I looked at the oil filter and it looked good. Oil had gushed out of the breathers and dumped all over the side of the block, and the dip stick was poped out as well. I yanked the whole dipstick from the block and gas/oil mix just poured out!!! I knew then that the fuel pump diaphram ripped and allowed all the gas from the tank that i had just topped off with premium($60) to sifen into the motor, topping the block off with gas I just changed the oil 200 miles ago, i have a 10qt pan and i run mobil 1 syn. $5/qt, so thats all gone.... why me. I then grabbed a pair of vice grips, pinched off the fuel line to the pump and went back inside and cracked a beer and let pops know that the truck is staying for a little while. Luckly i got another car there, and drove that home. All this was just 2 hours ago, now im going to hit up summit for a fuel pump and then hit the sac. This is what i get though, i spent all kinds of money on the engine. Replaced every single part, EXCEPT THE FUEL PUMP, because "it still pumped fuel" Now im paying the price.
So far tallied cost:
New Holley Fuel pump and filter: $140
Oil and Filter: $60
$40 of premium gas
And a bunch of time cleaning all the gas/oil off everything
Probably need a few oil changes to get her all cleaned out. Im just praying that i dont have any hydro-lock effects to the block or rods!!! $$$$$$$$$$

Reason: Mod note, warning sent
It always happens at the most inopportune time it seems like. Once while coming down off of a 10,000 mountain in NV, my 390 started choking and puking. barely made it to the bottom and then it drove 300 miles home with no probs. when i got up the next day I tore the Holley apart, and found out that I had not hooked the spring clip to the float on a carb rebuild two mo before. No probs til I got on the radical downgrade. dont know which Holley pump you bought, I have the red one on mine, it was $99.00+ tax at AutoZ*ne.
