What Damage Would the "eBay" Chip Do?

How's it going? About a year and a half ago, a buddy persuaded me to try out this "chip" that he bought on eBay. I tried it on for a few weeks with noticeable power gains until another buddy of mine told me I should take it off. That's when I didn't know much about trucks, I've learned a lot since then mostly to this site. It was one of those resistors that you replace the IAT sensor with. Anyway, a year and a half later and my cats on the passenger side are shot and rattling crazy. I also pulled my new plugs and found that they were black. Next weekend, I'm going to get my 4 cats cut and replaced with a pair of Magnaflow cats. What damage would this resistor have done to make my truck run richer? Would it mess up timing or fuel pressure even after it was removed? Thermostat? Did it ruin my cats which ruined my o2 sensors which then caused it to run rich? I want to know so that the same thing doesn't happen to my new cats. Thanks.

This isn't really a chip, its a 10 cent resister. We've warned users for a couple of years about this very sort of thing happening. The only thing the resister does is run the vehicle pig rich. This results in poor fuel economy and eventual damage to the cats (the fuel not only can clog them but it makes them run very hot).

I know, like I said, I had it put on when I didn't know anything about chips, mods, etc. I took it off long ago. I just wanted to know if that could have caused my cats and my O2 sensors going out.
