I was trying to put in a cd player in my 2000 ranger and was cutting the wires (since walmart didn't have an adapter and I was impatient and could not wait) and I short the wires out by accident and not the 12 volt constant does not work. I tryed using the cigarette lighter 12 volt but the door chimmer keeps going after I take the key out. And when I turn the key on the radio does not come on byself like it used to, I have to turn it on. I need help right away please. I'm mad and worried at the same time. I'm so worried about a fire hazzard I disconnected the battery.
Check your fuses. Hopefully one just blew and it can easily be fixed. You need to find an adaptor, if you don't know how to do it without the adaptor, you shouldn't try.
Well that's good to know. Let's just hope it stays like that and you don't ever have to pull it an install a new radio, or you may be in a world of....
best buy(and some radio shacks) sells the metra adaptors (the plug and play kind) for about $13. i just bought one a few weeks ago. if you've had problems with the door chime and 12V outlet, you might have to start manually turning the head unit off when you leave the vehicle. since you cut the wires you might wanna make sure that it's not shorting out thru any other wires or the truck itself. best case scenario: only shorting out the radio/amp/accessories worst case: electrocuting yourself or shorting out something big time.
trust me... a bad DIY job forced me to get my amp re-installed. fortunately, the local guy only charged me 50 smackers and did some extra stuff, but you don't want it to start blowing fuses left and right.
