Odd thought...
Roman Empire........ a little.
More like the British Empire in its long slow slide from Master and Commander to today.
Its more than fuel costs, more than our gluttony for petrochemicals. It’s a basic shift in economic base and industrial production. We spent so much time letting production go offshore that more than half the products on the shelf at the local discount store are now produced out of the country.
I don’t care what those economics guru’s say. When the goods vital to your country are no longer made in your country someone has you firmly by the short and curlys. I often wonder how many key components the Military needs to operate their gee-whizz toys are made offshore?
Like it or not China is the 900 lb gorilla that’s waking up now. They have the internal market that brings greedy lust to retailer’s glazed eyes. Once they get their internal policies in line they will be the largest single market in the world. As such they can control every aspect of marketing worldwide with ease by simple demand control. And they can, and will play the oil market like a Prima Violin master. The effects of Indian and Chinese oil demand has been apparent this year for anyone willing to take a good look at the market.
As for the price of fuel doubling? Isn’t a matter of if, more a matter of when.
Add the fact that there hasn’t been a new refinery built in this country for close to 25 years? Ohhhhh yeah, the pain at the pump is far from over. In fact, it’s just beginning.
If I could smoke coffee grounds I could do two things at once...
Yeah, but it's fun to live in the last days. Interesting times indeed.
Do you realize that if someone finds the rear-view mirror from my F250 a thousand years from now, some dude will write a PhD disseration on it how it was used back in the dark ages.
Oh yeah, RNE is right on the money.
