My early '99 had trouble firing one morning this week. I carried it to my favorite diesel mech and he found the the IDM failed the test. (code 1298) The Ford house confirmed it. I have looked through this forum and most posts state that one can use and IDM '97-'03. The Ford house said that there was the early and the late production IDM's. There was almost $220.00 difference between the early and the late production. The one I need is the most expensive @ $849.
What is the truth? Are all '95-'03's the same or not? What difference does it make? The mechanic at the Ford house stated it probably needed to be changed..but he has seen many that ran several years/many miles before having any impact on the engine. I need some expert advice. The repair cost is not the problem, but why spend $$$'s shen it is not critical??
Thanx in advance for your help.
I just had mine replaced. My truck just chugged home and died. see my post for
power loss and now it wont start . Don't get it from Ford 3 times as what you can get it on ebay just look at return policy and posts for custumer satisfaction.
Also check your wiring harness. As far as campable IDMs I'd check with internalional, but I don't know. Good luck
