How do I replace ignition switch
1996 f150, ign sw problem. It turns and turns. I guess it's a typical bad key switch. My teenage son broke the key off in the switch too. I can start the truck with a screw driver, but how can I take it apart and replace the mech.?

disconnect batt. ground.
turn lock cylinder key (or screwdriver to RUN position
place a 1/8 inch drill in trim shroud under lock cyl..
depress retaining pin while pulling out on lock cylinder to remove from column housing
any auto zone or advance will have cyl.
or go to locksmith and buy one and have them rekey it to match door.

Thanks, but does that also enable the 'black piece' that turns with the key to slide out of the plastic column housing? and when you say 'trim shroud under' do you mean below on the bottom side from under the column. I 'm guessing I do that if that's the case I'm on the flloorboard looking up. Is that correct?

hole is directly under key. only hole around that area.
