Had the hood up, engine at idle....all of a sudden a loud buzz started coming from the a/c compressor. Sounded almost like an impact wrench...Also started spraying a mist from that area. Went in the cab and cut the a/c switch to off and it stopped the noise and spray. Turned it back to a/c and all is good. Hasnt done it since....a/c still cold as it was...
The over pressure relief valve on the outlet side of the compressor let go and released some refrigerant. It is most likely a ball bearing held in place by a specific spring. They mostly DONT fail, so if you have that happening, you most likely have a plugged condenser or orifice. If you have either, you need to open the system and repair the blockage.
There is an A/C section further down on the list of forums.. and there is ackits.com and aircondition.com web sites for pro advice.

That makes a lot of sense. I have noticed that some of the fins on my condenser are bent over flat....like maybe i've hit a bird or something....think that may be part of the problem? I will try to straighten those back out and see what happens....
