I have a 1997 F-250 4x4 with auto-locking hubs. Truck has 125,000 miles now and still runs great. But, yesterday the front hubs engaged while I was in 2wd. I did not bump the floor-mounted lever - they just engaged all by themselves as I made a rather sharp turn into a parking space.
Here's my question: Could this simply be a result of worn needle bearings, or could it be that my auto-hubs are going out? If the latter, I will probably just replace with manual Warn hubs. Anyone here experience anything like this??
Installed a set of Warn Premiums today. Pretty easy to do in right in my driveway. The only extra tool needed was a set of snap-ring pliers - problem solved!
