I have seen in the JC Whitney catalog a few times a little relay that will run both low and high beams when you hit your brights for added lighting. Has anyone ever used this before? Does it work? Does it cause problems?
In theory, the bulb will run hotter than normal when you switch out of low beam. It should shorten the life of the bulb. How much depends on how often you use the high beams.
You're getting more light, but not where you'd want it. What, maybe 10-15% (just a guess) of the low beams are effective at HWY spds? Maybe it would be effective on 45mph country roads.
I haven't seen any kits for the Fords, only chevies (4 bulb system).
Since I haven't seen any of the Ford kits, a question: Does it upgrade the ground wire coming off the socket? Both high and low share this ground, so it would seem to be in need of an upgrade.
I'd still do my setup again: The "other" relay mod (whiter whites, brighter brights mod) and some driving lights wired to come on with the high beams. Puts light where you need it when at HWY speeds. Not much more difficult or expensive to put in, and then it's done properly.
