I did the 6637 air filter mod. Someone told me that this will mess up the mass airflow sensor and cause it to close and restrict air in take. I never even heard of a mass air sensor until some told me.
Is this true and is there a mass air flow sensor??
Will it close and restrict my air flow??
If there is onw ear is it?
I am no mechanic but it sounds more like a choke to me.
Thanks. POP. I thought that guy didnt know what he was talking about. There is a lot of well informed people on this sight and they never have mentioned it. My truck has run great since the mod and no more leaky airbox. He did have me a little worried cause he sounded so sure of himself but no more worries
There's lots of documented cases where a different air filter creates a "vortex" flow right on the sensor element for the MAF. I just went through this lesson at the last seminar that I attended for engine drivability diagnosis. It makes the engine run terrible, check engine light coming on, etc, when there is really nothing wrong with it at all. Other than a non-factory air filter. HINT: Those cone shaped washable, reusable type filters are the biggest contributor. So you have to be very careful about changing filters on a vehicle equipped with a MAF.
Our Powerstrokes have no such thing so no worries. They have a MAP type system which is immune to those sort of influences. So enjoy your new filter.
MAF = Mass Air Flow
MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure
