Hey all,
This started a few weeks ago but I finally got my internet working so I could post it. When taking off from a stop with the pedal pretty darn near floored I can hear and feel the auto 4x4 engaging-disengaging-engaging very quickly, almost sounds like a rachetting or crackling sound. If I engage the 4x4 in 4H before taking off this does not happen. Also when cruising at normal highway speeds if I put my foot down to speed up but not hard enough to cause the tranny to downshift the 4x4 will kick on, same things happens when climbing moderate hills. I can pin point it being the 4x4 because if I put it in 4H then back to auto it will kick off. I have had the tires rotated and I do have two tires that loose air pressure but I top them off and it still does it. Could it be dirty ABS sensors maybe? Or something else?
Thanks for the help!
It's been some time since I had the tires rotated and I noticed last night that when climbing a hill that the auto 4x4 did not kick in like it used to. I thought maybe the problem was fixed so at the next red light I hit the gas pretty hard and I could still feel the auto 4x4 kicking in and out very rapidly, almost like it thought I was on a slipery surface.
I was searching around FTE and I am a little confused as to how the auto 4x4 works. I thought that all that was involved was the ABS sensors sending a signal to identify wheel slip and engaging 4x4. However I also heard that throttle posistion might also come into play
It never did that when I first got it(used). Infact none of these problems were evident until recently. I do notice very bad tire wear on the front tires, on the outside edge is worn way more than the inside edge. I am going to go look for a new set of tires, atleast new tires can't hurt.
Thanks,
