rust has set in - how fast will it progress?
Anyway, here are some pics. I looked around underneath pretty well. Cab corners are actually pretty good. The trouble spots are really just the fenders and moderate rusting of the lower part of the core support, drivers side. Rear shocks are rusted and the upper steel sleeve thing is cracked because of it. You actually can see alot of the black original coating material on the chassis, it's just lifted away by the surface rust. Believe it or not, the exhaust is original. No leaks, seems solid from poking around on it. So, when I went out the first time, last Monday, it started right up, no problems. We've had 7+ days of straight rain - this time, it was missing for a minute or two - I held the throttle from under the hood to make it idle faster and after 20-30 seconds, the miss stopped. 4WD works great. Didn't get to drive it on the road - no plates or liscense - but did drive it around the guy's farm a good bit. Interior is nice and clean, accessories all work. Fuel guage doesn't work - he said when it quit, it was intermittent and had nothing to do with whether or not the tank had been recently filled up. May not be the float problem......
Shoot, now I just have to figure out how to post the pics.
when you say that underneath the truck it has original coating with rust underneath tells me you are going to have things breaking underneath soon.
shackles or radius arms when they break are no fun to do in summer and winter is coming.
offer $2000. or less.
lots of 4wd trucks out there.
my 2¢
Have you thought of heading to PA where, I'm told, they don't use salt as much so the trucks are in better shape?
Tim
Know of any dealers/auctions/lots etc in that area I should check out?
I'm so gladd some of you chimed in because i was starting to think $2k wasn't so bad for it. There is no doubt though, the rust is there and it will definetly get worse, quicker than slower at that, because it will be winter driven......
Thanks
But honestly its been 20+ years since I've been in the area.
I used to do the Amherst to Syr commute to visit the then GF, Moved to Syr to be get married not long after.. the grandson is 5 and 1/2 now

Good hunting!
