weird pcv problem

hello, i have an 81 f100 with a 300. it has a 4 bbl. on it with the stock oil filler cap and new springless pcv valve. i have the hose connected to the carb and when i do, i can hear the loud vacuum sound and it has a rough idle. when i disconnect the pcv and plug it, it idles smooth. is there a problem here. there is a little vacuum coming from the nipple on the filler cap but when i plug it, it still runs a little rough. can i just do away with the pcv valve. thanks.

You could do away with it, but you shouldn't have to. Make sure it's a good PCV, just being new doesn't mean it's any good. Check your air/fuel mix settings, you might be running too lean.
