Ok i have decided that although there are still things i dont know about my TTB setup it is strong enough for what i will do. I wish i could find out about getting a stronger axel for it but no one seems to know. I have a freind who is going to sell me a Skyjacker 6 inch lift with radius arms coils and all leaf springs plus 6 Rancho rs 5000 shocks. This is exactly what i want so i wm deffinitly going to buy it. The only thing is he has it on an 88 so i want to be sure it is all exactly the same. And the biggest thing is on his truck the tires lean kind of bad. the tops are out. Possibly it doesnt really have the SKyjacker radius arms? They were soposadly re powder coated so how could i tell? Is there a way i could adjust this once the lift is on? I guess i should probably contact Skyjacker about half of these questins but they arnt open right now and i wont be able to all day tommarow so ill ask you guys allthough seems like i ask way too many questins on here. P.S. what do you recomend for spark plugs and wires. I changed my distributor and cap today and i dont know what the best plugs would be to buy. Thanks a lot guys... sorry for being a pain in the ...neck?
you've been told what axle is recommended! you'll be fine with your limited offroad use but a D44 solid axle is a decent upgrade. and then obviously the D60 is the ultimate upgrade (for those looking for utmost strength)
all lifts for the 80-96 f150's are exactly the same as ford didn't change the design for 16 years! all lifts for F250-350 are exactly the same (aside from the ttb brackets on the 250s) up until 96 (except F350's which were the exact same in 97) then after that everything changed!
Cutts... the springs were different from F-350 to F-250... soley in size, a 6" F-350 spring was worth roughly 8" on a F-250... I know this because when i lifted my F-250, and straight axled it, i gained 8.2" over stock....
I dont want to convert from TTB to strait axel im asking you if there is a better axel that will work with the set up i have. and also the older F- 250s that have TTB front ends are they strong er have stronger axels because if so i can get one for free this weekend a kid will give me an 86 F-250. Also would it have a 9 inch rear end?
and older F-250 would either be Dana 60 or 70. The TTB dana 50 out of the F-250 and your Dana 44, have nothing in common. I say to keep coils, and drivability, swap in a Dana 44 from coil sprung late 70's Ford

I was under that impression too; however, the springs are the same for f250 or f350 (I checked the part ## once), you actually gain some lift from the housing, and 1" from having new springs..

check part numbers again... they are exactly the same. you gain about 2" when swapping from TTB to solid axle (since F250s use TTB in all years after 79 and all F350s use solid axle in all years except 80-85.5). trust me, i have tinkered enough with my springs that i am pretty familiar with what is offered

ok well if you dont want to convert you have 2 options! D44 or D50. they are actually about the same in strength but if you can get it free might as well bump it to the D50. and no in 86 the Sterling 10.25 was offered with the D50 in heavy duty applications and the D44HD front and Dana 60 was offered in light duty applications. Ford stopped using D70s in 84. best way to check what axles it has is look at the diff cover of the rear axle. if you see a fill plug on the cover its a 60, if you dont see a plug its a sterling.

i dunno if they used D70's in the 250's or not but i now in the F350's before 85 and all years of F450's and up. i think the big boys got the Dana 80's in later years (round about 1990)
87 is when the dana 80 came to the 450's and up, and the vans used the dana 70 up through the late 80's and maybe into the early 90's, also the 10.25 semi float was used alongside the dana 60 till they phased out the dana axles in 85-86.
