Adding a mileage computer

I have a 2000 XLT and want to add a mileage computer. Is there a way to simply replace the existing temp sensor box and put in a mileage computer?

I'm no expert, but my guess is that all of the wiring harnesses are the same and you would just have to pull a unit from a salvage yard donor and plug it in.

Sorry, it might not be that simple. Ford in its infinite wisdom actually has a couple different wiring harnesses based on vehicle spec and except for special orders, typically only vehicles outfitted with Eddie Bauer package have the appropriate wiring harness to plug in what Ford refers to as the 'Information Center' module. That does not mean it can not be done, but it does mean that without the proper wiring harness, you will have to run your own wiring to things such as the PCM, VSS, and fuel tank in order to get the data to display unit in the overhead console.
