My 05 6.0 CC F250 Sunday seemed to turn the cruise control on by itself two times. It accelerated by itself. I hit the brake right away so I did not see if the cruise light was on. Scared the crap out of me. Have not got it to repeat yet.
Not on a F250, but did on my 82 MBZ 240D. Dealer replaced actuator. Still did it. Then replaced stalk, STILL did it. Finally replaced entire wireing harness (took 10 days), didn't do it anymore.
What was happening was that I would turn it on and it would not engage -- right away. Sometimes took 15 minutes before it would engage. They thought it was low voltage due to faulty wire connections. Never did really find out.
Sold an 05' CC F250 to a friend, (I used to be a Ford salesman), and his truck did this too. Scared him too! He went to court on the issue, (he took the truck back to the dealership but they couln't get the truck to replicate the problem), but I haven't heard the outcome.
I seem to recall reading about a FMC recall having to do with cruise control. I don't think it had to do with it coming on by itself. Believe it was a possible fire hazard. However, I don't think it affected the 05's (I have an 05 also). Might be worth asking your dealer about though....
I cant seem to get it to repeat it yet. I will talk to the service manager (that should be a short conversion with them) and probably watch to see if it continues. It did scare the crap out of me for a quick instant though.
