I own a 97 F-150 Lariat with a 4.6 auto. The truck has 151K miles on it and I just recently replaced the battery. My problem is the engine wants to stall when coming to a stop at a stop sign etc...
The engine light is not on. I removed the IAC valve and it looked good...and the electrical checks were good.
Before I take it to a dealer to have it checked.....do any of you know what I should look for first?
Thanks for the replys in advance.
Lance...are you saying that if I clean the IAC with carb cleaner that it will shorten the life of it? It doesn't look that bad as far as being caked up with gunk.
What do they run in price on average?
Thanks for the reply!
He means that is if improves, the fix will only last a little. It doesn't shorten the life but it does give a temp fix so that you can get a replacement. They usually run about $70. (At least here in Denver). Don't forget to also check the MAF and vacuum lines. The IAC can be affected but other things other than being "caked". Carbon doesn't have to be piled on to casue a problem. Check to make sure it isn't leaking at the seat.
Thanks guys. The local Ford dealer quoted a price of 100 bucks plus tax for a new IAC valve. Guess I'll clean the one that's on there before I go pick up a new one. Thank's again. FTE is great!
My 99 f-150 5.4L got dropped off at the Ford house this morning for something similar. In the afternoon(dallas), I would start it up and then die immediately, unless I kept my foot on the gas. In the morning, it started and ran fine. The service guy initially said "IAC". We will see....
I replaced the IAC valve and all is well now. I cleaned the old one as best I could and it hepled. The new valve with tax set me back 102 dollars but it cured the problem. New valve was made in Japan by the way.
